India’s IP regime has plenty to be proud of, but in other areas, it needs work. Pravin Anand looks at the good, the bad and the ugly of intellectual property in India.

Increasingly, it is evident that India is teeming with right brainers but with one big difference: the right brainers do not seem to have fully realized that there is this little catalyst called intellectual property which can easily convert their creative energies into vast wealth. They have been brainwashed into believing that intellectual property is for the multinational corporations and that it is an exploitative weapon. Traditionally, too, the Indian polity has had a socialistic bent and, consequently, people looked upon too much wealth as not being a good thing.
