Pravin Anand looks at the Unfair Competition Act enacted by some states in the United States of America to combat the pirated use of hardware and software by manufacturers.

Certain states, like Washington and Louisiana, have taken a lead in legislating a unique Act called the Unfair Competition Act to combat the acts of “unfair competition” and “unjust enrichment” among the members of various industries through the use of unauthorised or pirated hardware and software by manufacturers selling products and articles in these states. In fact, taking cue from his lead, Attorney Generals of 39 states in the US have signed a letter of intent to the Federal Trade Commission and the Director of the Bureau of Competition in favour of adopting a similar law in their respective states.
