As the value of patents and copyright in IT is recognised, programmers and designers are emphasising the need to protect their creations and derive the maximum benefits from them to ensure effective licensing.

Software developers are aware of the hard work, time, mental effort and sometimes even luck that goes into getting a software project working to achieve the intended purpose. They also realise the ease with which source code can be obtained or copied. Due to this inherent vulnerability, it is very important to do all you can to make sure that software being released is secure and is protected under the developer’s name.

However, a software project is not worth the endless hours put in it if it is just stored in the developer’s machine and is used by him alone. This is where licensing comes into the picture.
