Safir Anand was invited to speak at the BW Businessworld Global Legal Summit 2019 held on December 12, 2019, at New Delhi on the ‘Role of today’s General Counsel’. The event was hosted by Dr. Annurag Batra, Chairman of Businessworld and among other panellists were Preeti Wadhawan, Director, Legal, Springer Nature; Amar Kumar Sundram, India Head-Legal, RBS and Dr. Sanjeev Gemawat, Executive Director (Legal), Dalmia Bharat Group.

Safir shared that the role of a General Counsel has been rapidly evolving with businesses intensifying their focus on disruptive innovation, risk management and corporate governance. The responsibility of a counsel is more than meets that eye; he is expected to strategize, opine formulae to evade risks and layout plans of scaling up, thus providing businesses comprehensive, one-stop business solutions. With the increasing linkage of law, regulations and the business, Safir also expressed the view that GCs will soon be candidates for CEOs.
